Because the technology is still so new, LCD TVs have not had a chance to reach a lower price point as CRT monitors have. When a product has been available for a specific period of time, it gives the manufacturer the time they need in order to streamline and economize the manufacturing prices to bring the costs down. They have not had enough time for technology to catch up to their process of manufacturing in order to bring costs down so they are not trying to rip you off.
Despite the fact that a Vizio plasma TV may cost more, you are still getting a better deal than if you were to buy an inexpensive LCD TV. If you decide to purchase a Vizio plasma TV, you will pay a little more compared to cheaper TVs, but you are not paying for the brand name, you are simply paying for the superior quality and construction on a Vizio plasma TV. When you purchase a cheap LCD television, then you run the risk of purchasing something that will break within the first two years, or it will almost certainly start to lose picture quality very quickly. Most people do not purchase an extended warranty plan with a cheap LCD TV because it ends up costing almost as much as the TV itself. Keeping this in mind, there is no reason for you not to purchase the slightly pricier Vizio TV over a cheap LCD TV.
